			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Vision Research Group at the Optometry Department at the <a href="http://www.dit.ie">Dublin Institute of Technology</a> has joined forces with the Macular Pigment Research Group at the <a href="http://www2.wit.ie/">Waterford Institute of Technology</a> to carry out a new research study into macular pigment and its relationship to visual performance and ocular health.</p>
<p>Dr James Loughman, lead scientist for the project at the Optometry Department in DIT, said the project, which has secured substantial funding from Enterprise Ireland and Bausch &amp; Lomb and has seen the development of new state-of-the-art laboratories at each site, will examine the possible short and long-term visual benefits of macular pigment.</p>
